To ensure smooth connectivity during peak hours, expand network bandwidth and use load balancing to distribute traffic evenly. Prioritize critical applications with Quality of Service (QoS) protocols, and implement Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) to deliver content closer to users. Regular network monitoring helps quickly identify and resolve bottlenecks, providing a seamless online experience even during high demand.

I will ask myself two questions if I have seen this first time 1) What cause this spike, is it business traffic or just spike by some loop/user/software/hardware malfunction etc. 1.1) Is there any sign of any kind of hacking or attacks?. 2) What is possible way to redirect some traffic on other available links by changing layer 2 or layer 3 switching or routing matrix or updates, at least until a root cause will not be identified. I will monitor all stuff and view possible logs to find reasons. If this is known reason due to my network capacity then I would go to look again at capacity planning and initiate review of it. If this traffic jams recorded at Internet link or specific unlink then L7 firewall policy and QOS and capacity.

Start with Monitoring and Observability. You can’t fix what you don’t know. Then based on the traffic pattern and. Asked on companies policy and budget you can take few decisions 1 - what kind of traffic is creating Digital traffic jam ? Is it the actual business traffic or just traffic which is not adding any value to business 2 - once you identify then either you can limit and put threshold for the traffic which is not important and give more bandwidth to the traffic where it matters or block the traffic. 3 - if the company has budget you can increase the bandwidth of Internet Circuits

The best solution for congestion issues is capacity upgrade. Bandwidth utilization should be monitored continuously and upgrades done prior to congestion. Closely track the utilisation of your major links and start planning to upgrade if the peak utilisation starts hitting 70%. Predict the network growth and increase capacity to accommodate future growth. You also have to implement Quality of Service properly in the network to ensure sensitive services are not degraded when you have capacity issues.

1. Upgrade bandwidth. 2. Add HA connection to internet. 3. Use latest SD-WAN solution. 4. Update all of network devices. Thanks me later

Segment Traffic: Categorize traffic into critical and non-essential groups. Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation: Automatically adjust bandwidth based on real-time needs, prioritizing important tasks. Bandwidth Reservation: Reserve a portion for critical processes to ensure smooth operation. Traffic Throttling: Gradually reduce bandwidth for non-essential services during peak times. Use Cloud Solutions: Offload some traffic to cloud services to reduce strain on the network.

You can add load balancer and use scalable servers to tackle the situation. Use cloudflare or other caching service to cache the static content of your system so that users don't have to request all data from main server. The static data can be served from caching servers.

To keep your network running smoothly during busy times, consider using Quality of Service (QoS) to prioritize important traffic. This way, crucial applications get the bandwidth they need. You can also use load balancing to spread the traffic across different network paths, which helps reduce congestion on any single link. Traffic shaping is another useful technique that allows you to manage data flow by limiting non-essential traffic. Additionally, network segmentation can help isolate congestion to specific areas. Finally, if you’re looking for a long-term solution, upgrading your network infrastructure or increasing your bandwidth can significantly improve connectivity during peak hours.

I will start by identifying the cause of the congestion and devices affected. One good way to achieve this is by checking router logs. If a network monitor is already implemented, it can be used to identify the nodes that may be using up too much bandwidth. In a scenario where the congestion is seen to be caused by some specific nodes, and maybe it’s observed that the users are downloading files leading to the congestion. The bandwidth usage on those nodes can be restricted to reduce the congestion, and improve performance pending further investigation.

Monitoring of traffic is very crucial to assess usage and bandwidth-heavy activities. Distributions of traffic can also be made on multiple servers that will prevent overload. Limiting bandwidth for non-critical services will also enable network performance during peak times.
