I'm a Showcaller so responsible for delivering the seamless technical and presentation side of the event. Talk to me! WhatsApp during an event for production team is hopeless. Only people who have time to look at their phones can do this - like logistics or people not actively listening for cues. Direct communication is the only way once a show is live unless we are talking about something much later in the day. When I started in theatre - a very long time ago - we used to have a triplicate book and keep notes and then have one conversation at the end of the day covering everything. Way more efficient than a stream of digital messages.

I VALUE all members of our team from the outset; I actually believe this the one most pivotal viewpoint to seamless adaptability as well as all other facets. In doing this, all are raised in a feeling of ability and ownership of the adventure. Drawing upon old military models, it was the groups who were collections of capable individuals, more than those awaiting a command for each move, that were better given to victory. I don’t distribute duties, which can limit and even wear down an otherwise enthusiastic team: Instead of “OK, you do this…” end to end- it’s “Here’s our target/etc”- and each member will expand to help the team. I can say “We’ll do this”- but the team saying “Hey- I can do this-this-this” for solutions? Awesome teamwork.

Second, get clear on WHO is making any decisions and final calls resulting from this change. Once a resolution is found, move forward with confidence!
