In my experience, the key to successful training is balancing tradition and innovation. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel, but we can teach it to fly. Learning is a journey not a destination and things change just as much as they stay the same. So, how it’s done today isn’t how we did it yesterday, and it won’t be how we do it tomorrow! It’s about embracing what works, while also being open to trying new things. Respecting cultural wisdom is paramount, but we shouldn’t idolize the past. Real growth happens when we honor tradition while pushing boundaries to create strategies that meet today’s challenges. How do you blend cultural knowledge with fresh ideas? Let’s discuss. #Innovation #Tradition #Training #Leadership #Growth #Strategy

Integrating traditions into training? Easy! Here's a fun recipe: Research – Know the customs. You wouldn’t put ketchup on sushi, right? Ask the locals – Get insider tips from people who know the customs—your cultural tour guides! Respect, not stereotype – Keep it real, not cartoony. Think flavor, not overload. Mix old with new – Blend traditions with modern methods, like grandma’s recipe with a twist. Involve everyone – Let them share their own stories. It’s like a potluck—everyone brings something special! Stay flexible – Adapt if needed. Just like tweaking a dish, keep it tasty! Nailed it—now your program is ready to serve! 🎉

As a former Real Estate Virtual Assistant trainer with a background in teaching education, I always make sure to customize my training program according to the background of my students. This includes being sensitive to specific nuances if I have students from different cultural or religious backgrounds, ensuring that the content is respectful and inclusive. I also adjust the content, pacing and delivery based on their experience and learning styles, whether they're new to the industry or seasoned professionals. Lastly, I encourage feedback to continually improve my program.

This is a broad question that requires nuance yet can be answered quite easily: cultural humility and inclusion. Cultural humility must always be our top priority. It's important there's authentic and diverse representation in EVERY step of development. Each circumstance is unique so there's not an all purpose cookie cutter strategy. However if you commit to the guiding principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access the natural destination will be cultural humility.

To integrate tradition with innovation, start by identifying key cultural values and practices that resonate with your audience. Use these traditions—such as group storytelling or mentorship—as the foundation for building trust and community. Then, introduce modern tools to enhance learning, like digital platforms for goal-setting, tracking progress, and fostering communication. Ensure flexibility to adapt traditional customs to current challenges, like personal identity and career development. By combining cultural practices with innovative strategies, you create a program that remains relevant while honoring the past.

During my experience as Vice President (VP) of Leadership for Sigma Alpha Lambda (SAL), VP of SAL in college, as well as my time as a Cadet Senior Master Sargent in AFJROTC in High School, I have learned that most effective training strategy that incorporates human decency and effectiveness across the entire organization is focusing on similarities between team members while acknowledging individual talents and delegating tasks accordingly. Dividing the team based on talents, skills, and professional compatibility coupled with compassionate leadership for the combined purpose of achieving the completion of tasks is the core of effective team- work and efficiency.

Training should be thought as a jump-off point, especially in this scenario. Diversity is always at the table, so it is essential that unity and understanding are present. One thing that is critical is implementing systems that empower voices and share experiences to create wisdom and future plans in an aim to reach cultural competency and cultural proficiency. Therefore, in a training program, individual experiences, spaces for improvement, research on cultural viewpoints, and tools to reach and maintain self-awareness must incorporated. The aforementioned will create sustainable and improved outcomes starting with the eye-opening training program and working toward and through an ever-improving and welcoming environment.

As a trainer, one of the ways I integrate traditional customes and practices is by asking the participants to share some of their experiences on specific issues as they grew up. If we are tackling issues of sexuality, I would ask the participants to share their traditional ways of talking to young people about sexuality and the sexual organs in mother tongue. This is fun and we get to hear and learn from each other on traditions and customs. When training on gender roles, I ask the participants to share on the various roles assigned to men and women in their communities. We also sing traditional songs during the energizer.

Surely community participation is key from conceptualization earlier in planning the training. Interactions will help to ensure that cultural perspectives are kept in mind while developing the training program especially on culturally-sensitive topics. Roles should also be assigned in conformity with cultural practices
