Couple of things I would Focus on is the target audience, Intuitive design and fast performance of the application. To make sure the functionality is top notch along with responsive and modern design to go hand in hand is to balance the overall information in the application and the design. To compliment each other you should always look at how you go on about balancing. A tip is not to overload the application with too much information and options.

I think, "Form follows function" is still the fundamental that applies to mobile apps. If we look at the top 3 most used apps - Insta, Whatsapp, Facebook, their aesthetic has always been in-line with the purpose. To take this point further, while designing an app, a useful technique I explored was to imagine the app as a persona, just like other user personas and explore aesthetics that would appeal to the (app)persona. Imagining interactions between user personas and the mobile app as a person can generate many ideas around how the aesthetic appeal can enhance. Some examples are- the visual identity or typography for the app can be better imagined by imagining an interaction between two personas.

Focus on designing familiar usable layouts. There are a ton of aesthetic patterns available to the average user. There really is no point reinventing the wheels altogether. Familiarity with patterns and layouts that users are used to will make for a very good balance for your users.

The key lies in understanding that aesthetics should serve functionality, not the other way around. Here are some strategies to achieve this balance: Prioritize usability: Ensure that the website is easy to navigate and use, with clear calls to action and intuitive layouts. Keep it simple: Avoid clutter and excessive animations that can slow down the loading time and distract users. Use responsive design: Ensure that the website adapts seamlessly to different screen sizes and orientations. Choose a color palette that is visually appealing and easy on the eyes. Use high-quality images and graphics that enhance the user experience.

When designing a mobile website, balancing user experience with aesthetic appeal is important. Prioritize functionality, intuitive navigation, clear calls to action, and responsive design. Also, incorporate clean, visually appealing layouts with consistent branding and engaging visuals. Continuously test and iterate based on user feedback to ensure a smooth and enjoyable user experience.
-
My rule of thumb is to keep it clean & clear! Don’t over do it! I like to balance design & contrast while focusing on user intent and keeping that simple & user friendly.

Focus on functionality and simplicity around UX - minimise load times - simple navigation - familiar patterns - tap friendly - progressive disclosure for unveiling content that’s not necessary first up - avoid multiple axis across and more focus on vertical scrolls Aesthetics - consistent ui choices around color, typography and visual hierarchy - clean and minimal choices helps consume better on mobile - better readability using better contrast of colors as well as font choices e.g. serif fonts ain’t better for paragraphs - use micro interactions for selective attention and feedback
