As a designer, you must weigh the visual appeal against the car's operational performance. Need to take in consideration of Iron triangle - Scope, Cost & Time with Quality. When it comes to design we need to keep the brand design Aesthetics of the car manufacturer which are the key characteristics of brand that's a basic requirement and define the scope based on the requirement - Aesthetics, Performance, Geographic location, efficiency. Time & Budget with high quality product. In scenario where time is a constrain then we need to trade off on budget by adding resources, outsourcing, exploiting other opportunities strategically. The last resort to trade off should be on scope based on the given situations.

Deciding on your design priorities requires understanding your target market and the prototype's purpose. If you're aiming for a luxury market, aesthetics might take a slight lead. In one of design project which I worked on was a car designed for South America geography and the same platform was used and redesigned to Asia geography. In this case the aesthetic & performance of the car was designed based on the market research for Asia geography without compromising on Brand aesthetic design and features.

This is a balance between certification, aesthetics and efficiency, which have to be dictated on a first sight by the market needs. In the automotive industry is pretty obvious this. In the past fuel was utilized to power up cars. Now a day cars are beggining to be powered up electrically because fuels price is increasing and these pollute the environment. Additionally, replacement to batteries will come as batteries still pollute to our environment so solutions like hydrogen in combination with batteries could make a real non fossil fuel solution to our transportation.
