Then design your commercial projects so the innovations can be included so the customer is not negatively impacted. This won’t work if a completely new product is needed. That requires you to make a leap of faith! But the leap will be safer if you have a solid plan, have all your stakeholders on board, know your budget, have agreed success criteria and have lined up its first commercial project if it all works. Finalise a design concept, tested openly and widely among diverse experts, before spending real money. This critical stage is often missed.

We need engineers with a good commercial understanding and commercial people with a good engineering understanding. You need to set up multidisciplinary teams who can assess projects/ideas from different angles. You need to put tenchnical decissions and commercial decisions at the same level to force that mutual understanding.

In my point of view, renewable energy is already very often the cheapest source of energy. Of course there is also a huge field of research to optimize the technology and further reduce costs. I myself decided to invest my small funds in standard renewable energy projects to grow, and subsequently invest a small part of the income in research. For example, it is possible to conduct research on electric motors to increase efficiency even further, but probably it is easier to just build a company with standard solutions for electric motors and then just follow the general trend of optimization.
