This is a very good challenge to face. To balance Quality and Long-Term goals, we need to prioritize essential/MVP requirements without compromising quality. We should regularly review progress/milestones, follow continuous delivery, gather and address feedback, and identify/resolve risks/issues early. Keep the stakeholders updated by communicating openly ensuring quality and future goals.

If 80% or more of customer value can be generated in a MVP mode, than you shouldn’t even be considering it as a Long Term project. Technologies change and most importantly consumer behaviour and expectations change and with time, most long term projects just fizzle out. Figure out how you and your teams can generate short term value, tactical deliveries and move your focus to the next best thing. But if you’re forced to still work long term, then break it down. Every step should deliver an incremental value for the customer or the shareholders but each packaged differently. Quick in, Quick out. Always focus on delivering quick value & lasting impact but don’t take ten years to do it 😉

Always keep the long term objective and build MVPs and iterations. Take as much feedback as possible so that when you iterate you have the right impression of the customer's needs. Make sure that all your work is aligned with the company's vision. Most importantly you need to have great leads who listen and acknowledge the effort to make the needle move in the right direction and support you.
