Obsession with the needs of the end customer (internal or external) is essential to drive innovation. Innovation results from involving and listening to customers and front line employees during your process analysis. Following a six sigma DMAIC methodology is also a great enabler to ensure no “stone is left unturned”.

To flourish in consulting and promote innovation, you must have strategic vision, innovative problem-solving abilities, and critical thinking skills. Effective communication and collaborative leadership are critical for bringing together various teams and stakeholders. Furthermore, agility and technical competency allow you to handle changing environments and use cutting-edge technologies. Developing a growth mindset and emotional intelligence promotes resilience and a culture of continual progress.

We must posses skills such as: Creative problem-solving: To approach challenges from new perspectives and develop unique solutions. Strong analytical thinking: To break down complex issues and uncover insights. Adaptability: To navigate change and stay ahead in a fast-evolving environment. I feel that to thrive in consulting, the ability to break down intricate challenges into manageable components is essential. And common talking of consulting data is of paramount importance, it involves interpreting diverse data points, recognizing patterns, and predicting future trends. It's not just about gathering information it's about using that information to craft strategies that push boundaries while remaining grounded in practical reality. In my opinion successful consultants don't simply react to the current landscape they foresee shifts, leverage emerging opportunities, and tailor solutions that align with evolving client needs

Agreed with this, and everybody wants to be a strategist, however, tactically understanding the issues are first and foremost. When entering a client scenario, we deploy hypothetical outcomes, which are followed up with analytics. The analytics course corrects the hypothesis. The more facts, observations and revisiting scenarios, the smoother and sharper the picture becomes. An analytical mind is imperative to get to this point, and relentlessly ask questions.

Listening to whats being said and not said, noticing what people do and don’t do, engaging with stakeholders, asking ‘why’ to get below the surface, analyzing trend and pattern data, and connecting with others to develop solution options for consideration.

First and foremost, it’s crucial to define the problem sharply to identify the pain points that the solution needs to address. This requires a thorough root cause analysis, often using techniques like the 5-whys strategy. Combining this with a bird's-eye view of the broader landscape enables the development of a holistic solution that ensures 360-degree success. In a past experience, I identified communication gaps and incomplete requirements as key contributors to inefficiency, which I addressed by introducing Agile methodology and modern tools to streamline operations and improve overall visibility.

Thinking out of the box is essential for any consultant and really for the growth of any business. What is not working needs creative solutions. Systems break - what used to work no longer does. Acredito que transmitir conhecimento de uma forma simples utilizando a criatividade e com uma linguagem de fácil entendimento, alcance um maior número de pessoas pois você se torna como o seu público, e passa a ter uma aceitação maior por parte de quem está te assistindo, pois a tendência é ter uma empatia e uma conexão entre ambos.

Viel entscheidender ist doch, daß man mit praxisnahmen storytelling die Leute alle mitnimmt und die an solchen Beispielen sofort lernen, worum es auch für das eigene Unternehmen geht. Klar werden sich immer wieder auch bei den besten Praxisbeispielen die sog. Bremser oder Saboteure finden die dies einfach mit dem Label abtun....bei uns würde so etwas nicht funktionieren. Da hilft dann nur noch die Spiegeltechnik um aus endlosen Rechtfertigungsdiskussionen herauszukommen !

When building solutions, keep in mind to stay present and fully engaged, acknowledge their feelings, and ask open-ended questions to encourage sharing. Validate their concerns and demonstrate flexibility in your approach. Building trust through authentic and candid interactions can lead to more effective and personalized solutions for your clients. Sometimes, I even leave my notes in the car. This forces me to be completely present. Try it!

So being attuned to the motivations, concerns, and emotional responses of stakeholders allows for more effective communication and collaboration. Anticipating client needs and reactions is a huge part of the job. Can you assess generally speaking your clients' Myers Brigg or DISC personality types to help inform how to deliver information and better anticipate how they like to receive and process information? Understanding how your personality type typically interacts with the four DISC types is a great place to begin to grow in this area.

If you don't help them find a solution that aligns with their values and strengths, then when you leave they will just revert back to something that feels more comfortable. This is often the most deficient skill in consultants, even though the best possess this in high doses. An ability to manage everything people-wise before even trying to solve problems represents table stakes. The lack of empathy in everything we breathe regularly is astounding. My city roots allowed me to read the room with excellence (humbly stated), which has gotten me through a career and, for that matter, a lifetime that set my current legacy. Human dignity, empathy, respect, and cooperation yield the most significant outcomes, and that is what I have achieved through the good, the bad, and sometimes the ugly. Without people skills, you shouldn't enter any services business! This is a guaranteed fail!

Listen and observe! Empathy is the skill you need to build emotional intelligence. Some have it naturally others will need to practice and train. How? By actually evaluating conversations you had with others. Practice self-reflection and think of ways you can change to have a preferred outcome. But it needs to be in your character, don't try to be someone else, just improve what's there and stop less helpful habits.
