Once they see the benefits hitting the bottom line, it’s much easier to have the conversation about reinvesting those savings into bigger, long-term projects. Done right, sustainability can open new doors: better relationships with customers, a stronger reputation, and even attracting more investment or winning tenders, especially with public procurement shifting toward ESG priorities. That’s not pie-in-the-sky stuff; it’s smart business. Start with practical steps that show results quickly.

Unfortunately, it seems that the ones who advocate and lead for sustainability-linked have to continuously demonstrate the benefits of those initiatives even when the plan was already approved. I would highlight the examples of reducing costs but also and specially the initiatives that are the base to mitigate risks which might impact on the bottom line. We also can share case studies and industry benchmarks can illustrate the profitability of sustainability.
