I believe the above answer could be a better fit for addressing business needs, but I have outlined the following pointers to steer UX Researchers back on track whenever they deviate. If the goal is to be "in the rut" and no more, we'll have to address him. If the goal is to fit users and UX designers discovered the way is not "in the rut", we should consider to put all the project of the track.

Maybe the designer was right, although been off-track. So rather than staying "in the rut", we have to consider a pivoting is research showed he/she is right.

I’d remind the designer of the core objectives of the product and how IA supports those goals. This helps realign their focus on the structure that delivers the best user experience.

The only guidance should be users. So what else is the framework, we're never sure we are fitting. So Question, Observe, Test and decide. I saw "in the rut" project with frameworks unable to move off, going to crash and miss their goals only to stay "in the rut"

Usually I take help some pasts examples where this situation occurred and then try to discuss this with the designer. Initially I used to tell the what was wrong and bring them back on track but eventually it started to seem like spoon feeding so changed the approach to make them understand how to think by discussing some case study and historical instances in the design team and it yielded brilliant results ☺️

It's always the recommendation and the good behaviour to constantly collaborate between teams. Reminding that the role of UX designers is not only to do their job of discovering, modelling, testing, challenging... but also to warrant the UX ness of all teams, including to teach, advocate, evangelism the would mind-set of UX and UCD

UX designers must be deeply get facts to take decision and don't rely on expectations. That's the tricky part of their job. We must give them time and resources to truly survey, not only to get so weak hard data, but also collecting true and human soft data. Getting all that, we can really take decision of piloting and strategy and align all the concept and dev.
