This will never happen. If only! Deadlines get changed all the time, but usually it's the other way -- they get shortened! A good way to motivate the team is to accept that it can be an annoying challenge, but a challenge after all. If we "survive the deadline", there can only be positive outcomes. That could include more days of rest, a bonus, or a promotion if someone really stands out.
