A central point of truth for data is very important. If people are using multiple sources of data, it could lead to lack of data integrity. Decisions could be made based on old or false data. To help keep data integrity, I recommend having that central point of truth - like an ERP or CRM. That should be monitored by a designated admin and updated regularly. Permissions can be set for others in the organization to reduce human error.

As a data analyst, I stress the importance of data integrity by connecting it to organizational goals and sharing real-life examples of its impact, from inaccurate insights to reputational risks. I highlight the benefits of strong data practices, like better decision-making, improved customer satisfaction, and greater efficiency. To make data integrity a team effort, I assign stewardship roles, set quality metrics, and provide training. By leading by example and recognizing team contributions, I foster ownership of data quality and encourage open communication, ensuring data issues are addressed promptly.

I used to work in a processing plant. In the control room we have our operators who constantly monitor the important process parameters. At first, I just thought what a waste of time reading and recording those parameters. One of our critical equipment had problem and technicians from the supplier were sent. They extracted the data and analyze it. During presentation, I totally learned and fully grasped the importance of operational data. How can you proactively avert possible problem to occur and what actions can be done. Since then, I treated data as my ultimate guide. As much as possible, I will make my decisions based on what the current data is showing to me.
