I had a global team with these exact problems, so we addressed it with several strategies: a) Remind everyone to SLOW DOWN speaking. We received great feedback by team members that appreciated that native speakers were constantly reminded to slow down in meetings. b) Keep to a simple vocabulary (think 5th grade English), and remind native English speakers to clearly enunciate (minimizing regional accents). c) Use illustrations/storyboards which required NO WORDS. This often required creativity, but it permitted people outside of our team (who had no English skills) to understand the guidance/decision/expectation. d) Rephrase input from people whose English skills were challenged. It almost always resulted in "thank you"!

In India, with its linguistic diversity, language barriers are common. Here are some practices I’ve found effective: 1. Start with Respect: Acknowledge the other person’s challenges and meet them with empathy. Respect fosters understanding. 2. Mind Your Body Language: Non-verbal cues like expressions and gestures often communicate more than words. 3. Simplify Your Language: Use clear, simple sentences and avoid jargon. 4. Use Visuals or Examples: Pictures or examples help convey ideas when words fall short.

Fostering a culture of inclusiveness and using simple techniques like visual calmness where the thoughts are understood and the speaker is appreciated builds a lot of confidence

Overcoming language barriers requires a transformative approach that blends emotional intelligence with psychological safety, fostering a culture where every voice is valued. Emotional intelligence builds empathy, active listening, and patience, enabling team members to navigate misunderstandings with respect and composure. Psychological safety amplifies this by ensuring individuals feel empowered to express themselves without fear of judgment, creating an environment where mistakes are embraced as opportunities for growth. Celebrating effort over perfection and championing diversity as a strength transforms challenges into catalysts for innovation and collaboration.

1.Avoid using complex vocabulary that may be difficult for non-native speakers to understand. 2.Break down instructions into smaller, manageable steps, and ensure each step is understood before moving on. 3.Visual aids like diagrams, flowcharts, or pictures can help illustrate complex concepts. 4. Create a safe and supportive environment where team members feel comfortable asking questions to clarify any misunderstandings. 5. Utilize translation apps or software to facilitate communication. 6.Offer language training or resources to help team members improve their language skills and address any gaps. 7. Use non-verbal cues like body language, facial expressions, and gestures to convey meaning and support understanding.

It becomes effective by creating an atmosphere where the team players would not feel out of place asking for clarification without any fear. Encourage, "Can I repeat this back to make sure I understand?" for the purpose of limiting confusion and building trust. Ensure active listening by rephrasing ideas and making open-ended questions, especially when someone finds it hard to express themselves. Celebrate differences in languages and perspectives - these are the things that could actually create innovative solutions. You will create a team with improved communication, working smarter and prospering together by encouraging curiosity and mutual respect.

Como líder en un equipo de trabajo que cuenta con hablantes fluidos, natos e iniciantes es importante crear en determinados momentos una convivencia informal para que puedan identificar como relacionarse unos con otros, integrar dinámicas relajadas que les permitan la comunicación sin tensión. Hacer lo necesario y darle a conocer el equipo que la comunicación es un vínculo. Para casos muy técnicos contar con personal bilingüe experimentado e integrar recursos que apoyen con el tema del equipo.
