I have been involved in Project selling , very high value proposals . Naturally it requires a team of domain experts from Marketing , Manufacturing, SCM & Engineering . I have always shared with them the requirements and the priorities of the customers in evaluating a proposal . Some customers are Price sensitive , some insist on Quality/Reliability and some would like to evaluate on Cost ofr Operation . Every team member therefore knows their target areas of focus and accordingly contributes in the exercise . It then will have to be merged in totality and we are ready with a sound Techno-Commercial proposal. Chances of such proposals succeeding are very high and each member feels important and owns his/her part in the exercise.

Client negotiations is not the responsibility of the team nor their focus! However mapping the team members on each project pillar requires cohabitation and alignment that is to be based on respect.. In this regard, an internal project team meeting is to be arranged for capturing and sharing the team inputs and updating them on the scene.. The project steerco. Is then to be formed and then on the project operations all inputs are to be objectively cascaded on the same table for the quality of deliverables!

Pre-Negotiation Alignment: Hold team discussions to gather input and establish a unified strategy before engaging with the client. Assign Roles Clearly: Define each member’s role in the negotiation process to highlight their expertise and contributions. Encourage Active Participation: Foster an environment where everyone is encouraged to share their insights and solutions during discussions. Acknowledge Contributions: Recognize team members’ ideas in meetings, emphasizing their importance in shaping decisions. Facilitate Feedback Loops: Regularly debrief as a team post-negotiations to review performance, celebrate successes, and integrate improvements.

Nothing beats the power of face-to-face interaction in the same room to build the most substantial relationships with clients. Active listening is essential; it involves maintaining eye contact, using positive body language, and genuinely reflecting on the client’s words to ensure alignment. Encourage everyone present to share their thoughts and feedback at the correct times. Before concluding the meeting, confirm that the client feels fully satisfied with the results achieved together. This approach not only enhances rapport but also fosters lasting partnerships.

When my team navigates client negotiations, I make sure everyone feels heard and valued by taking a few key steps. First, I hold a pre-meeting to discuss roles and contributions, setting the stage for inclusive participation. During the actual negotiations, I rotate speaking opportunities so each team member gets their moment in the spotlight. After the meeting, I acknowledge and follow up on all input, reinforcing the value of each contribution.

In client negotiations, fostering an environment where all team members feel heard and valued is essential. Face-to-face interaction is crucial as it builds trust, fosters relationships, and creates a dynamic space for collaboration. Begin with a pre-meeting to clarify roles, contributions, and goals, ensuring inclusive participation. During meetings, actively engage the team, rotate speaking opportunities, and use tools like visual aids to clarify ideas and seek immediate feedback. Post-meeting, acknowledge each member’s input and follow up on contributions, reinforcing their value. This approach strengthens collaboration, ensures alignment, and helps the team tackle challenges with clarity and cohesion, building lasting partnerships.

When your team is deep in client negotiations, making sure everyone feels heard is crucial for harmony and great outcomes. Start by creating space in prep meetings where each team member can share their insights or concerns—sometimes the quietest voices have the sharpest points. During negotiations, assign clear roles so everyone knows their contributions matter. Afterward, debrief as a group, highlighting what went well and recognizing individual contributions. It’s about fostering collaboration, not competition, and when your team feels valued, their confidence—and results—will skyrocket.
