After 15 months of development, we had to pivot—a situation similar to the axe story: you can either take the time to sharpen the blade and cut the wood in one day, or keep striking endlessly with no progress. To keep the air clear, it’s better to let down your guard with your team and have honest, realistic conversations. Adding pressure only risks breaking things faster rather than solving the issue. True morale comes from doing justice to your work, not for the sake of LinkedIn recognition.

One is communicating to the team and customers a longer term time lines than actually anticipated ; to better manage expectations. Second is seeking viable alternatives solutions to meet the markets needs that can help bridge the need. And thirdly engaging across all involved parties to press the exact needs and generate group solutions .

Hold truth, even if it’s unflattering, as the highest standard. If something is awful and unfair don’t pretend your team needs to do better, but also don’t blame up, sideways or down. Ask your team what they think is the best possible and how they could push that envelope. Don’t pretend failure is unacceptable for unless the miss is so egregious everyone gets fired, then failure is acceptable. Transform the struggle into an existential metaphor for life and your team will accomplish things no one thought possible.
