IoT refers to 2 major terms: Internet & the things. So in the simplest way, if in case you are facing any such issues. Then the first most troubleshooting is to realise whether the issue is with either the internet or the things or both? So checking connectivity is the most basic thing to do initially which anyone & everyone knows. After realising the issue & its root cause, we can do the needful as per the requirement. In usual cases the internet is alright, the things which we are referring to here are sensors & actuators forming the network, exchanging signals & making the automation possible. You sure can spare 1 GPIO pin and have an led with a limitless number of colors and patterns, each pattern can be used to show a type of error. Maybe red blink for mqtt disconnection OR fast Blue blink for failing to register to a cellular network. Users can use that to give a more accurate description of issues they encounter which will help in better troubleshooting or later revisions.
