We've created 'care pods' where small groups check in on each other daily (yes, even just a quick coffee run counts!). We normalized saying 'I'm struggling today' by having leaders go first. Simple things matter: celebrating birthdays, sharing wins, and having those impromptu hallway chats. We also rotate 'wellness champions' who organize everything from quick meditation breaks to potluck lunches. Remember, building community isn't about grand gestures - it's about showing up for each other, one shift at a time.

I disagree that team building can solve burnout. After decades of working in several clinical and farmaceutucal teams, different healthcare systems, I believe that the solutions for a better work-life balance are: 1. Stoping and sanctioning aggression and passive-aggression in the workplace. 2. Systematically combating mobbing at all levels. 3. Less working hours - diminish exposure. Or, at least, respecting free time (guaranteed by law). 4. Empower healthcare professionals, from the moment they start education, to articulate, respect and fight for their human and working rights. 5. Creating a strong legal system to protect physicians and nurses. 6. Cherish hobbies, activities and friendships and keep them separate from our jobs.

Burnout is real and for me and teams that I’ve lead, having down time and “brain breaks” can help. Put games, cards, easy craft projects, ect in break rooms gives staff hands-on activities to focus their brain on something other than work.

I feel the most impactful way to avoid burnout is to focus the team on purpose. The daily tasks and minutia of the job can be overwhelming and can become redundant. With an emphasis on purpose and team building focused on purpose driven results, the job becomes less of a day completing tasks, and more of an exercise in achieving results and a true sense of overall purpose.

Creo que el apoyo de los compañeros, quienes viven las mismas condiciones laborales que tú, ayuda a prevenir el agotamiento. El trabajo en equipo actua como factor preventivo del desgaste. Hay una serie de tareas, que a mi juicio ayudan como: fortalecer las relaciones fuera del trabajo. Reservar tiempo para disfrutar con tus familiares y amigos que debe estar libre de temas del trabajo. Las preocupaciones y el estrés laborales, deben quedarse en el hospital. Cultivar aficiones ajenas a la medicina. Leer, ir a espectáculos, tocar música. Busca lo que te haga feliz y hazlo. Haz deporte. El ejercicio físico habitual relaja y libera estrés. No lo subestimes como ayuda para prevenir y tratar el desgaste.
