To improve turnaround times at airports, technologies can play a crucial role by streamlining processes, reducing delays, and increasing operational efficiency. I.E. 1. Artificial intelligence tools can optimize resources management by predicting needs in real time and allocating resources more efficiently. 2. Advanced systems to monitor and manage aircraft traffic on the runway can reduce waiting times TOFF n Landing. 3. Biometric identification systems can accelerate passenger verification processes, improving security without compromising. Just some examples. The integration of these technologies will enhance efficiency and improve passenger satisfaction and reduce operational costs.

Start calculating Dwell Time regularly and apply computer analytics to identify the holding points. It shall not be s secret parameter in passenger service. Also passengers grievances are very educative , if read carefully. Passengers often report the pain points. As it's said , with reference to human body, that the pain is the indication of ailments in particular region; similarly pains of passengers are the way to a better, if not perfect solution.

Efficient airport turnaround times are vital for profitability and satisfaction. Technologies like AI, IoT, AGVs, digital twins, blockchain, and biometrics optimize scheduling, streamline tasks, and enhance coordination. Renewable energy and self-service tools improve sustainability and speed, ensuring resilient, agile, and customer-focused aviation operations.
-
New technologies can streamline airport turnaround by automating and optimizing processes. AI-powered scheduling can allocate resources efficiently, while IoT sensors track baggage, fueling, and maintenance in real-time. Drones or robots can assist in inspections and cleaning, reducing human error and delays. Digital twins simulate operations to identify bottlenecks, and advanced analytics improve coordination among ground crews. These innovations enhance speed, accuracy, and overall efficiency.

One main reason which causes Aircraft turnaround delays is when one of the Pax don't show up on time on the gates. Offloading and loading of their bags can end up taking ages. Dutyfree and other facilities are tempting at the Airports, people forget the importance of time while shopping / Smoking / Sleeping at Airport. An alert on their phones during boarding and final call can play a big role. Ideally if a boarding card barcode scanner is provided on entry and exit of all facilities available at airport can give a good idea of missing Pax whereabouts, that will give a good idea to pass offloading details to the Ramp team on time.

The first step is to identify the root causes of the inefficiencies. This can be achieved through customer feedback, surveys and operational data analysis. These insights would the guide the selection of the appropriate technologies. Automated baggage handling and self check in kiosks can help reduce bottlenecks in passenger and baggage handling. AI powered security screening systems can fast-track the passenger screening process and cut down waiting times. Overall technology can streamline operations and help reduce turnaround times.

Some systems & procedures can be incorporated are: Advanced Baggage Handling Systems that incorporate AI-powered sorting systems. Real-time Data Analytics & IoT Sensors can be used to monitor aircraft status, gate availability, & equipment usage to predict & resolve issues before delays occur. Big data analytics to analyse passenger flow & predict peak traffic times to optimise staffing & resource allocation. Passenger Flow Management Tools with AI-powered queue management systems & wayfinding apps can be used. Dynamic scheduling systems can adjust operations in real time based on flight delays or weather disruptions. AI-enabled predictive maintenance tools can monitor ground equipment & aircraft health, reducing unexpected breakdowns.
-
Implementing automated systems for baggage handling, refueling, and maintenance checks Utilizing data analytics platforms to monitor and analyze flight schedules, weather conditions Developing mobile apps for ground crew that provide real-time updates on flight status, gate changes, and operational tasks Artificial intelligence can predict delays based on historical data internet devices can track the location of baggage, equipment, and personnel in real-time Implementing self-service kiosks for check-in and baggage drop-off reduces queues at counters speeding up the boarding process Using smart parking technology to manage aircraft parking spots efficiently can minimize taxiing time on the runway Investing in sustainable technology

Technology is great but you need to ensure that any technology is being fed good data on which to build your analytics. Ensure that both above wing and below wing has a clear understanding of when “tasks” are to start and end, using departure time as reference and work back from there. Ensure your processes are aligned to these times and develop timelines realistic to each type of aircraft and turn profile ie 777-300 from domestic to international and v.v.
