Conserving water is always a priority for superintendents, especially in maintaining a golf course's visual appeal. I believe that a well-designed, modern infrastructure is key to achieving both water conservation and a visually attractive course. Ensuring that irrigation systems are up-to-date and operating efficiently can prevent overwatering, minimize waster, and direct water to areas that need it most. For example, using a weather station that integrates with the central irrigation system can automatically adjust watering schedules base on real-time weather conditions, helping to maintain optimal turf health while reducing water usage.

I’ve never approached any problems on a golf course as one answer will solve that problem. A problem is usually exasperated by several smaller imbalances. Take into consideration the irrigation system and moisture sensors your water source and sodium level, aeration core or solid tine, depth, timing and frequency. The use of soil amendments and soil surfactants, and don’t forget to feed your microbes. One may be creating the problem by using conventional fertilizers and pesticides. The more healthy the turf the more efficient it will grow and can use up to 20% less water.

Often overlooked are the types of irrigation heads on fairways. Very often the array of spray often waters the rough areas. Retro fitted heads that don't angle in this way can save huge amounts in drier years.

Conserving water usage is a most important factor and there are already some great answers here. Limiting area of grass that need watering is another step in limiting water usage and expense.
