For task to be signed off by Dev as closed, it has to be put into ensured that practice of code quality apart task closure is ensured. Each dev has to run his code check through tools like Sonar Cube for code quality check apart from guidelines set up under governance.

This is one of the approach I follow: In weekly team sync-up, I typically acknowledge the individual who stood out as the 'star of the week.' I take a few moments to explain, in 4-5 sentences, why they deserve recognition, highlighting their contributions/help in improving code quality or sharing knowledge. And then thanking them for their efforts. I've observed that while this gesture may seem small, it motivates team members to volunteer and make meaningful contributions toward enhancing code quality. Important Note: Please ensure this exercise takes no more than a minute since it's not the main agenda of the meeting. Core technical teams have to be ensure that they follow the process and rules written under governance . To ensure continuity to this activity, they should have a KRA or performance review on ensuring coding standards and practice. This should be reviewed monthly (to be largely be part of Sprint Retrospective over all technical quality feedback) and they should be rewarded on quartely basis to keep the spirits of practice high. At the same time, its important that for code quality to be ensured, the Dev member is not overloaded with work for completion in short time and with eagerness to complete in short time. This definitely impacts quality of delivery / output.

These tools streamline adherence to coding standards by either automatically implementing them or flagging areas where standards are not met. Before code can be checked in, all identified errors must be resolved. This enforces a culture where developers are compelled to address errors promptly to move forward with their work. Over time, to minimize rework, developers naturally begin to adopt coding standards more consistently.

When assuming ownership of a product/module, ensure thorough testing is done according to requirements & ensure the availability of adequate documentation such as requirements, design, traceability, test plans, etc.

I will share a personal example. In large product companies, you will have multiple teams in various locations working on product delivery. All have same set of standards, guidelines and procedures. Some product leaders may decide to employ temp staff and release a new product with code issues inherent. The product next version moves to you. Your architect discovers that code quality is poor and refuses to takeover the product. What would you do ? I faced a similar situation. I tried to negotiate with the SVP who was close to CTO. SVP flatly refused to acknowledge and said the ball is in my court. I had to convince my team to correct the code first before enhancing the product. We allocated some time for this and delivered a great product.
