Google is your friend, but don’t exclude (with some restraint) peers, family, friends, and the vendors themselves. While the vendor support process may be tricky or sometimes long, they are the experts; if the CSR doesn’t know, he will find someone who does. One of the best resources I’ve ever had was through a forum with an engineer in China who had extensive experience in HPC, more than Microsoft’s US team. Reach out, network, and ask the questions.

In my experience and how we work here, we have a good automated cloud backup plan. We have dev environments such as blue/green mode (we can take a production snapshot on a webserver and run tests in a development environment) and isolated environments for various solutions and tests.

I believe this, the more you follow the provider's best practices and resource usage, the more your cloud infrastructure will be updated and with the correct alarms and triggers, you can have an environment that recovers from a critical error automatically, even using another region of your cloud environment, preventing loss of connection across an entire datacenter.

While the relief of resolution may come from successful automation it leaves you open to potential worse stressor and system failures in the future.
