What do you do if stakeholders struggle to understand complex program information?

When it comes to knowing the audience it is about understanding their background, expertise, their understanding of subject matter and so on. These things then further connect to the communication strategy and the level of details and cons cisness we need to provide. Also the kind of visual aids that we need to use for example an expert need very micro level details whereas some may need only high level details. Also the kind of story we need to communicate depend on the understanding level, the outmost objective is to create a environment where stakeholders feel connected and openly ask questions, provide feedback

Understand the background, expertise, and level of familiarity that your stakeholders have with the program information. Tailor your communication approach to suit the needs and preferences of your audience, whether they are technical experts, executives, or other stakeholders.

Complex information need to be break down into smaller and easy to understand it should not have technical jargons or term which make it complex, making a simple story with background, context and that deep dive into solving problem statement and proposed solutions. Diagrams, visual art and some form of artwork help in understanding quickly. Further more workshop and brainstorming session can be held to make the interactions more engaging. Feedback is encouraged from stakeholders so as to improve in future

Story and emotion are the key elements which help us to improve our stakeholder engagement immensely. I draw an example of farming where we grow various crops. Stakeholders take care of different aspect of farming, Project managers are like head farmers responsible for entire operations. Developer are like field workers planting seed taking care of crop, quality assurance are like inspecting crop and making sure quality and standards are align with market. Any problem coming like pest control require, quality of soil, irrigation needed are real world problems that can connect and solution can be brainstorm similarly problems and solutions thus complex problems can be easily simplified

Frame the program information within a compelling narrative or real-world context that resonates with stakeholders and captures their attention. Appeal to emotions such as empathy, curiosity, or excitement to engage stakeholders on a deeper level and make the information more relatable.

Seeking feedback is important to take care of any miscommunication or misalignment and help in taking proactive action. Setting up open communication channels, expressing concern asking question is very important. Also another aspect to it is to validate understanding and clarify as required. Also follow up with stakeholders just to confirm their understanding and resolve doubts if they have any thus fostering a feedback driven culture to improve the processes
