What do you do if you need to showcase your problem-solving skills in the E-Learning industry?

First, I clearly define the issue at hand, whether it's low engagement rates in my online Chinese course or a technical glitch affecting user experience. Understanding the problem in depth is crucial for devising an effective solution.

For any sort of solving a problem, you first need to know what exactly is the problem! Is it that the course is inaccessible to the learners? Or, are there certain portions of it that are not working in the intended? Once you have a clearly defined issue with your course, you can make a plan to move forward.

I brainstorm multiple solutions, considering innovative approaches and technologies. For instance, integrating interactive elements like quizzes to increase engagement or consulting with tech experts for platform issues.

Check for all the options that can solve the issue. While choosing your way of solution, keep in mind if the course is already online your learner data should not be disrupted. Discuss with your teammates to find as many options as possible to solve the issue with as little disruption as possible.

Next, I assess the feasibility, cost, and potential impact of each solution. This involves weighing pros and cons and possibly consulting with peers for additional insights, ensuring the chosen solution aligns with my course objectives and resources.

Before choosing a specific solution, do a pro-con checklist for each solution type to see that your solution is fool-proof. Be cognizant of the fact that your solution should not create a new issue for your course/LMS.

Once you have weighted in your options and know the best option, go ahead and implement your solution. While implementing, make sure you arrange for all the additional resources you may need to make sure the update happens as intended. I personally prefer to use a checklist for this.

After selecting the most suitable solution, I create a detailed action plan for implementation. This might involve updating course content, introducing new learning tools, or revamping the course design for better user interaction.

Post-implementation, I analyze the results based on predefined metrics, such as student feedback, engagement levels, or technical performance. This review helps determine if the problem has been effectively resolved or if further adjustments are needed.

Beyond addressing specific issues, maintaining a proactive approach to problem-solving is key. Regularly soliciting feedback from students and staying updated on the latest e-learning trends and technologies can preempt potential problems. Additionally, documenting the problem-solving process and outcomes not only serves as a valuable learning experience but also as evidence of your skills and innovative thinking to present to stakeholders or future employers.
