Most of the times when I join a team and that I don't know what to do, my way out had always been to ask questions. The new team member should feel supported and as long as I can, I will follow along with them in a step-by-step way to help get to the point. Letting the team member know that there will always be there someone for them to help, is what can give them a bump in trying at least instead of choosing resignation. Recently, I experienced this situation where I have to work on SWOT Analysis for a company with team members and most of them do not know what to do. They were completely lost and unsure of what to look for. But I have been there always trying to tell them that they can ask questions and I will help as long as I can.
