I believe that management of remote teams begin with trust and empowerment of the team being managed. Clear timelines and report back (update matrix) needs to be clearly identified while the onus of updates within the defined timelines should be on the team and not the manager. While scope for review of project deliverables within the overall timelines should also be clearly built in. In a nutshell defined smooth running and sustainability of remote work can surely be achieved if the teams don't feel hounded but own up to the responsibility of delivery of the project while remaining congnizant of updates of project deliverables at defined milestones or periods.

Daily Clear Communication with all the team on zoom with respecting the time zone for all team members this will maintain communication and transparency throughout the project. Be clear about expectations, goals, and deadlines,roles and responsibilities. There can always be quick stand-ups meetings, any time with creating a WhatsApp group for quick reach out depending on the complexity of the tasks. A few ways that I found worked: 1. Common communication platforms and expectation setting for plan of action and milestones on a forum like Teams for ubiquitous updates. 2. Regular occurring standup meetings that kept everyone updated. These were not full briefings but quick daily or every other day ‘scrums’ to share what others need to know or want to know or what decisions need to be made. If an individual needs more than 90 seconds, it needs its own meeting. 3. Make sure people are held accountable, but also have what is needed and are empowered to meet their deliverables. If they do not have what they need senior leaders need to engage to clear the barriers.

It is crucial to support the remote teams in a timely manner with the resources, guidance and encouragement that they need in order to continue making progress on their project. As a leader, being approachable, responsive and resourceful is going to help with the above. We must also skillfully leverage a combination of messaging tools like M S Teams for both synchronous and asynchronous communication and structured, standing meetings backed by clear and precise notes. Open lines of communication can help the team members get their questions answered quickly and get them unstuck. Precise meeting notes can help everyone get the crucial information they need when others are not around and allow adding their thoughts and topics as needed.
