The preferred application is based on the scale of your organization. Small scale: use excel; medium scale: use standardized templates and low level software. Large scale and you are lost without a decent ERP. For planning tools you don’t look at organizational scale but project scale. Master data structures defining company, activity and materials parameters are your essential foundation.

Excel is very useful and simple to use any extents. However, there are specific software used during construction management and progress tracking for each and every system by company. For tracking changes is usually used change management system. This apply to design, procurement, FAT/SAT etc. Design changes we used to have DCN and that can be tracked with simple excel spreadsheet or company own software. Hope this helps. Regards
