How can you write a literature review that stands out?

To be frank, a literature review needs to be pragmatic and pathfinder, and not something that 'stands out' from the lot. I understand that most of the higher educational questions on the LinkedIn platform assumed a stark competition and that is precisely the case too. Assuming a proposal to impress a Northern professor, located in a prestigious institution, any graduate student must include as many papers/books as possible from renowned publishers and make an updated mosaic of the books in her literature review (of the proposal). Only in rare cases, if encouraged by the supervisor, s/he may look for 'interesting' essays from 'local' origins. For a better review, however, they should always look for 'local' and out-of-box writings.

Beginner researchers start with ideas or methods based on a subjective interest. It's interesting, but not helpful for peer review because it is not situated in the much larger body of work available on the topic. The literature review says: "This is what the body of literature says about my topic. What the literature did not cover sufficiently or could have wrong due to technical challenges is my particular research question which is X. Therefore, experiment Y (my experiment) can provide important answers that contribute to this scientific program." Scope schmope. The literature review shows humility and sufficient understanding of the field to dare test our current understanding of the world. That's why we delegate it to undergrads.

Sin duda que la bibliografía es un aspecto importante de la investigación puesto que aporta los fundamentos teóricos de orden cualitativo o cuantitativo que dan soporte al proceso de reflexión profunda acerca del objeto estudiado. Ahora lo importante no es que destaque la bibliografía, ya que en la escritura de textos académicos tienen su forma establecida para asentarla en el cuerpo del documento, lo importante en todo caso es mostrar la labor intelectual convertida en nuevo conocimiento.

Before you start searching and reading the literature, you need to define the scope of your review. What is your research question or problem? What are the key concepts and terms? What are the inclusion and exclusion criteria for selecting sources? How will you organize and structure your review? These questions will help you narrow down your focus and avoid being overwhelmed by irrelevant or outdated information.

The purpose of your literature review will determine what to read, how much to read and the types of highlights you focus on. Typically, a literature review can be short - couple of paragraphs - and presented in bullet form of the key points. It will typically serve as content for anyone not able to read the entirety of a book, article, blog, etc.

In my understanding as a teacher, there are addition steps to craft a standout literature review. 1st, doing critical evaluation (don't just summarize sources) to assess the strengths, weaknesses, and relevance of each source to research question. 2nd, identify patterns and trends for themes, arguments, or methodologies across the literature to adds depth to our review. 3rd, place each source within the broader context of the field to contributes to debates, theories, or gaps in knowledge. 4th, give our own insights and interpretations, how do the sources relate to each other and what perspectives do they offer. 5th, carefully proofread our review for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors to ensure our work is polished and professional.
