Engage in a conversation, keep it honest and call it as it is. 2. Is the individual going through something personal or is something stressing them? Get the help of a therapist if you are not the right person to ask the hard questions. 3. What is the persons feedback about their performance and what they feel is wrong? 4. Are they ready to move forward? 5. Get the right people involved, this is a team effort. Training, coaching, etc. 6. Come up with a plan. 7. Check-in and be present. Either everyone is committed or not.

For underperformers, effective training can help unlock their hidden potential, especially if they had unique qualities identified during hiring. Providing retraining and another opportunity can reignite their spark and lead to transformation. Core training may also help them transition to a role better suited to their skills, where they can perform more effectively.

All these points are excellent for a machine approach to humans. But we all have either a passion or drive or none of the two. Select right persons with a passion and willingness to learn and win, they will find their way to come up.
