I don’t want to lose that engagement from them, so prioritization, rather than a flat “no,” is key. Estimate the value of different research questions to the business. People can get distracted by questions that are interesting but hold little value or do not contribute to solving the core business problems that were in the RFP/ scope. If you need to pivot significantly from the RFP, have a transparent conversation with your client about cost and timing implications. If something on the RFP is no longer relevant, embrace descoping it for something more relevant and valuable.

The most important aspect to keep in mind when facing this situation: Be Willing to Say “No” When Necessary. Saying “yes” to everything can overextend you. Politely and firmly decline when necessary, but always base your decisions and “NOs”on mutual trust and transparent communication with your clients. Overpromising and underdelivering can harm your reputation and undermine your professionalism.

You can use Jira to track what has and will be delivered and when it will be delivered. Clients can add requests and specify urgency. During priority meetings, discuss and re-evaluate.
