Some of the good eco friendly practices in the upstream oil & gas sector are: 1. Oil & Gas is invariably produced with Water.Instead of surface disposal of the produced water, it should be treated and utilized for water injection into the oil reservoir for pressure maintenance. 2. Lot of drill cuttings and drill fluid gets generated during drilling of a well. A mechanism needs to be in place for treating the fluid for re-use and disposal of solid waste. 3. Oil & Gas wells, many in number, are drilled over a wide area. Well depths may range from few hundred to thousands of metres. Well integrity is of paramount importance. Contamination of fresh water acquifiers through leakage or seepage of gas needs to be avoided at all costs.
