When it comes to campaign or project planning, having an outline of goals and deliverables is crucial. Start with the end goal in mind and identify the materials you need to make that happen. This will also help with that client who is always changing their mind. An outline gives you the leverage to say, “This was our goal and this is why we structured this campaign/graphic/social media post this way.” It's also extremely helpful for your team. They can review your outline and see exactly what is expected of them.

Making time for self reflection and mindfulness whether it is through journaling, meditation or enjoying time outdoors allows your mind and body time to rest and reset from the elevation caused by stress. The functioning of our frontal cortex, the part of our brain that handles higher level cognitive processing needed for problem-solving, is impacted by stress. By calming the mind and body, you enhance your capacity for creativity and the development of solutions.

Work becomes overwhelming when it triggers unresolved personal issues like attaching our worth to work or work outcomes, difficulty setting boundaries, people pleasing, perfectionism, saying no, having difficult conversations. Or when we lack skills needed to do our job well. Therefore we need to identify what’s causing overwhelm and start taking steps towards resolving them.

Managing my client work load starts with managing my schedule and self-care. The start of my day self-care includes (enough sleep, healthy breakfast, movement, meditation, somatic flow). Every hour or two I; walk, shake, dance,10 minute work out routine, chore, water/tea. I schedule 1.5 hour lunch; to eat well, and allow time for movement. Client boundaries set up the expectation that I am available during weekdays only. My clients are informed and reminded that I am not an emergency service and they are aware of appropriate ways to get support in between sessions if needed, when I am not available. Emails are not for sharing clinical information but only for requesting a session or making an adjustment to the schedule.
