In learning new technologies, one thing I’ve tried is relating with those who have learnt those technologies before me. I get to hear from them on how long the learning process can take. If I can’t find anyone, i learn the basics myself during my time off-work using the most interactive medium to keep me focused, then I take a project-based approach during work hours. I identify the practicals of the technologies and where they can be applied. I do this in bits and do not try to rush them all at once. Sometimes, it could take weeks to get a hold on those practices.

Balancing support is a priority on a regular, daily basis. Changing workflow is a challenge as adding learning may block regular work. It may cause evaluating possibilities to be a starting point alongside complete learning, which would bring technical support. The support tasks are no 1, but evaluating changes and offering proposals as positive changes would be acceptable. Working extra time to learn would be helpful, too.

Identify opportunities to use new learning in your existing projects solving real world problems. This personally makes me more curious. Listen to tech podcasts or videos when you commute or on a break. By making small incremental progress and integrating it in your routine, you can steadily learn new technology without being overwhelmed.
