You’re struggling to find meaning in your work. How can you reignite your passion?

First thing is to accept and embrace that it's normal to experience fluctuations in passion and motivation in your work over time. Two things according to me, come handy. 1. Pause and taking time for self-care 2. Learn, read and unlearn. This helps channelise into reflection and get back to adjusting your compass towards true purpose and renewed goals.

First thing is to accept. Every situation could be an opportunity as well. I will look for areas where I can add a personal touch that aligns with my passion and core values. do things differently that that will help me revive the purpose and make a difference

Think about what motivated you to go into marketing. If you have moved away from your original work, is there a way to work on similar projects. Try to seek them out if you can. If you can't try to make a change. A thrid option is to look at your work in a new way.

Embracing "Purpose Mapping," I create visual representations of my professional aspirations in relation to the company's goals, an inspiring tool that aligns daily tasks with long-term visions. The "Impact Journaling" method, where I jot down even the tiniest positive outcomes of my work, proved invaluable at tough times. One vivid memory is of crafting a campaign that didn’t just excel in metrics but also raised awareness for a social cause. Seeing the community's response was deeply fulfilling, reinforcing my purpose at work. These practices aren't just tasks; they're beacons guiding my marketing voyage to impactful shores.

To reignite passion in your work, reconnect with your values and purpose. Reflect on what initially drew you to your field and explore new challenges or projects that align with your interests. Seek inspiration from mentors, industry leaders, or personal experiences. Embrace learning opportunities and set goals that excite you. Additionally, consider volunteering or pursuing passion projects outside of work to invigorate creativity and enthusiasm. We all get a downward dip from time to time. Take a look through your personal portfolio and remember the highs.

With new challenges and opportunities bring renewed and rejuvenated life into one's marketing life. I did that when I pivoted into a new industry still leveraging on my marketing skills. Changing towards getting more hands on digital marketing skills and working with a younger generation of workers too. It was challenging but looking back I had a great experience and build the ability to be flexible and enriched me!

Product Delivery Celebration To reconnect with clients, we organized an informal 'Unboxing Day'. Here, we delivered our software personally, not unlike a baker presenting their crafted pie. Witnessing their reactions firsthand was priceless. It injected a refreshed sense of purpose in our work. Customer Story Week We initiated a 'Customer Story Week', where team members were encouraged to interact with customers, listen to their experiences with our product, much akin to a friendly coffee chat! This opened new channels of connection, cultivating empathy that eventually translated to better service.

The best way to redefine meaning at work is to look at the actual impact your work has NOT to your organisation but to society instead. Most marketers work in for profit organisations and so no matter how they realign themselves to organisational goals they will still derive at the same end point: making the shareholders richer. Marketers are trained to see through corporate speak and things like Mission or Vision often don't have the actual weight they claim to carry. Measuring your output against what society needs is a better gauge. If your org's products improve people's lives, that's where your meaning lies. But if they don't and make people spend more without removing friction, then it's time to find meaning elsewhere.
