It is generally more difficult and takes longer to generate sales through organic content than advertising. It can also be more labour intensive. If you already have a good size audience, organic promotions can be tested to see if they deliver results. If the audience is low, it's a good idea to pay to get in front of your audience to speed up results. You should also assess what has worked in the past and double down/amplify strategies that have already worked for you. Both organic and paid should be used together and tested before deciding which will be the long term strategy, and even then, as buying behaviour changes, it's likely the strategy will need continuous review.

When deciding, I always start with the goal. If the aim is to build long-term trust and visibility, organic content is essential for creating authentic connections over time. However, if we’re aiming for quick engagement or targeting a specific segment, paid promotions can give us that precision and immediate reach. Budget and timing are also critical factors. Organic growth may take longer but builds brand loyalty and credibility, while paid promotions can deliver instant visibility when it’s needed most. Ultimately, a balanced approach—using organic for sustained engagement and paid-for high-priority moments—ensures we maximize reach while maintaining a genuine connection with our audience.

To decide between organic reach and paid promotions, consider your goals, budget, and timeline. Organic reach is ideal for building long-term brand trust and engaging with an audience without extra costs. Focus on quality content, SEO, and regular engagement to grow organically. Paid promotions, on the other hand, can quickly boost visibility and target specific demographics, making them useful for time-sensitive campaigns or reaching a wider audience quickly. Many strategies blend both approaches: start organically, then use paid ads to amplify high-performing content or reach untapped markets. Regularly analyze your results to adjust the balance as needed.

To tackle a tight content budget, we can repurpose high-performing content to expand reach. For instance, we can turn a popular blog into social posts, infographics, and a short video—each aimed at a unique audience segment. This approach extends the content’s lifespan, reduced production costs, and keep messaging consistent. Additionally, we can launch a user-generated content (UGC) campaign where customers can share their experiences with our products/services, creating authentic testimonials across channels. Then using a strong SEO strategy to boost organic reach, we can achieve high engagement without overspending, ultimately meeting stakeholder's goals.

The first question you need to ask your self before deciding between organic and paid is what's your goal and how fast you want to acheive those KPI. If you have time you can solely rely on Organic method. If you want result then paid promotion is the way. But in both cases finding perfect distribution platform is the key. I think combination of both is better. Also brand journalism is the best way to get quick exposure. Everything depends on budget.
