When starting a new job abroad, it's essential to find a balance between your professional responsibilities and immersing yourself in the new culture. Here are some tips to help you navigate this transition: Set Realistic Expectations: Understand the Culture: Research the local culture, customs, and business practices to avoid misunderstandings and cultural faux pas.

I believe it is part of the success of your new job!! You have to learn all about your new job, concentrate on a new team and on your expexted deliveries. To do that learning local culture is fundamental as nothing is done on your own. Bond with your new colleagues. Learn about how they work. Their habits in the professional environment but also in a more personal way. Share your eays of working and qho knows it might be possible to compromise in some. Work together, communicate in a transparent way, this is what I did when on assignment!

I experienced cultural shock as a Spanish teacher at a high school in England. I had learned English in the classroom without exposure to native speakers. Misunderstandings arose from cultural differences, such as my more direct style, which could seem rude in my colleagues eyes. I recommend informing about your cultural unfamiliarity and asking for patience. It's important to read and ask trusted people about the local culture. In fact, years later I discovered that even speaking rhythms are cultural: we Spaniards don't wait for our interlocutor to finish their sentences before we start speaking, while the English do. I've only been able to detect that after reading Erin Meyer's explanation about it.
