I have an example. We are preparing the conference about leadership this year. According to the plan, we wanted 6 speakers. For the diversity of opinions and points of view, I searched speakers from 3 groups of characteristics: cases from different sizes companies (international business and medium local), cases about the diversity of sex and ages (because the leadership topic is full of bias), and cases from different counties. From this conception, we have 6 polar points that will provide the interest of diverse audiences as well.

To ensure every perspective is represented at events, I start by expanding my search for speakers beyond typical networks, reaching out to thought leaders from varied backgrounds and experiences. I set clear diversity criteria to guide the selection process, aiming for balance across gender, culture, expertise, and viewpoints. I also prioritize creating an inclusive atmosphere by briefing speakers on the importance of respect and open dialogue. This approach not only enriches the event content but also makes attendees feel that all voices are valued and welcomed.

To ensure every perspective is represented, I start by understanding our audience’s needs and identifying which voices will bring the most value to them. I build a speaker diversity matrix to track a balance of backgrounds, industries, and viewpoints. By connecting with underrepresented groups, I bring fresh perspectives to the table and reach out early to secure speakers who align with our event’s mission. With a diverse planning team and moderated discussions that highlight contrasting viewpoints, we create a space for rich dialogue. The result? An event experience that feels inclusive, impactful, and true to its purpose.

Planning an event with diverse speakers is a fantastic way to highlight varied perspectives, but it requires careful thought to ensure all voices are represented. Start by defining your event’s themes and actively seek speakers from different backgrounds and industries. Form a diverse selection committee to vet potential speakers, ensuring a range of viewpoints. Great question! When planning an event with diverse speakers, I start by understanding the different perspectives and experiences that need to be represented. I make it a point to consult with the communities involved and actively seek speaker recommendations from them—this helps ensure authenticity and breadth. I also consider balancing backgrounds in terms of culture, expertise, and lived experiences. It’s all about creating a platform where everyone feels heard and the audience benefits from a truly well-rounded conversation.

Start with your story, who are the "characters" in it that can bring about the diversity of perspective. Think of it as thought you are writing a book and get to know your characters and where they might take the story you choose to lead.
