Managing a diverse remote IT team requires balancing different working styles while maintaining cohesion. I established clear communication channels suited to individual preferences—chat, video, or email—to ensure smooth collaboration. By setting uniform goals and deadlines, the team had structure, but I allowed flexibility in how they achieved them, whether through Agile sprints or asynchronous work. I also organized regular virtual team-building activities to enhance understanding and foster collaboration. This approach helped us align effectively and achieve strong results, despite varying working styles.

(edited)To manage IT resources remotely, You might have perfect communication tools and a well maintained platform. Hybrid or Complete remote options can create some conflict but normally IT would be avoiding it as negligible or avoidable errors, Basically that won't reflect the daily strategic workforce of the entire office or IT department. Or the best practice is to collect frequent replies and feedback from the various departments and build a communication with them and their regular work.

When managing my teams, I always ensure there’s someone who integrates individual efforts and aligns the results — whether it’s me or a dedicated coordinator. Every team member is unique, but during the hiring process, it’s crucial to understand their strengths and the outputs they can deliver. This helps anticipate workflows and set clear expectations. I prefer team members to work independently from the start. This minimizes interference, ensures focus on individual contributions, and, most importantly, keeps everyone replaceable by maintaining thorough documentation and standardized processes. This approach safeguards the project’s continuity and resilience.

Establish regular virtual check-ins to discuss goals, progress, and any challenges. Use collaborative tools to facilitate teamwork and ensure everyone is aligned on project priorities. Foster a culture of respect and understanding, encouraging team members to share their preferred work styles and accommodating their needs as much as possible. Set clear expectations and deadlines, while also providing flexibility in terms of working hours and locations. Regularly seek feedback from team members to identify any issues and make necessary adjustments.

Identify the unique strengths of the individual and where possible, tap those strengths to the fullest. Diversity only works if the diverse talents / strengths can be harnessed and directed in such a way as to achieve maximum results in achieving corporate objectives. Inversely, expecting someone to work within areas of weakness is going to lead to dissatisfied teams and poor results. Pushing for personal growth is best achieved when in the direction of a persons natural ability.
