Shared, interlocking individual and group goals can smooth some of the rough spots when groups scale. If part of my evaluation depends on you hitting your goals as well, there tends to be less "Me" and more "We." I also believe in extending project completion goals out to market adoption and not just release-for-sale milestones to keep everyone focused on the point of the exercise!

As a leader, avoid biases that can erode the ability to manage conflict effectively. Some level of conflict is natural, as employees are not clones. The key is to ensure that conflicts do not affect performance or hinder growth. It is important to listen to diverse opinions and foster open communication. Promote collaboration by holding regular team meetings as a default practice. Address conflicts openly and work towards resolving them. If, despite your efforts, some individuals remain unconvinced, communicate clearly that the decision is important for the organization and reflects the consensus of the larger team. Focus on addressing productive issues and keep moving forward.

In my experience, many team conflicts stem from unspoken frustrations. During a scaling phase for a SaaS product, we introduced weekly open forums where team members could voice concerns anonymously or in person. This platform uncovered misalignments, such as confusion over deadlines and expectations, which we quickly addressed. I strongly feel that creating a safe space for honest communication doesn’t just resolve conflicts; it prevents them. Open dialogue fosters trust and helps teams work as a cohesive unit, even under pressure.

Scaling creates stress. Stress can cause conflict. But stay positive! You can fix this. 🤔 Communicate: Clearly explain the scaling process. 🤝 Listen: Understand each team member’s concerns. ✅ Support: Provide resources and support. I been in a lot of teams....and teams that undermine the team leader...but at the end of the day each person must.....must have objectives .....that are traceable...if you keep group directed with measurement...you have a team with goal....The person earher works or dose not... Just what I experienced.....at corporate in Canada and USA and England. Dave
