On top of prioritizing the critical tasks, spending adequate time for planning & quality checks has been the key for effectively navigating such instances in many of the projects. Even when the timeline is crunched, if documenting/planning takes atleast 30-40% and quality assurance takes minimum of 10-20% of the effort for every short term goal, chances of meeting the long time goals(with slight deviations in timeline) are much higher even with limited resources.
