In my career, few years ago I was contacted by two completely different parastatal organizations handling dbs of hundred of thousands of members. These databases apparently had similar timing issues during peak hours of the day. This issue meant service downtime for at least 40 mins during the busiest time of the day, the orgs were unfortunately serving the whole country of 60M+ people. Step1 was to quickly analyze the source of the problem which was found to be waiting time due to table locks. Step2 was to give confidence to the client that the problem is solvable. Step3 was to solve the issue, by babysitting the db to identify the source of the locks and fix them in 2 days. The culprit was lack of DB maintenance, especially in index.

In a word : Humour. We're all working to deadlines, dealing with errors, being frustrated by things outside of our control, day in, day out. But laughing (even for a minute) releases endorphins, brings the team together and is a welcome break from the norm. Share a funny video, tell the "Dad jokes" or start a Gif tsunami in Teams.

- Open Communication: Foster an environment where team members can voice their concerns and challenges. - Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge progress, even if it’s minor. Celebrating small victories can boost morale and motivate the team. - Encourage Breaks: Remind the team to take short breaks to recharge - Collaborative Problem-Solving: Involve the team in brainstorming solutions. This not only distributes the workload but also empowers everyone. - Maintain a Positive Attitude: Lead by example. A positive mindset can be contagious and help the team stay focused.

In my experience working on the backends, one way to prevent persistent errors on databases is to put on checks on how data enters the database. Maintaining teams morale is to allow team members each to contribute the little he have. Another is to ensure team members are answerable to one another by removing the job-level hierarchy and allowing team members to operate on the same frequency. Take breaks no matter how small, even in the middle of deadlines, as the brain needs to have a way of relaxing even in the midst of pressure. Finally, for someone like me, I make my work fun by merging it with something I like doing, like listening to music or playing poker online. That way, I could be able to think outside the box.

Para manter o moral alto, comunique-se de forma transparente, incentive a colaboração, reconheça pequenas vitórias, priorize o bem-estar e ajuste expectativas para aliviar a pressão e manter a motivação da equipe.

To keep my team’s morale high during persistent database errors and tight deadlines, I’d focus on open communication and support. I’d hold brief daily check-ins to address concerns and celebrate small wins. Encouraging collaboration fosters a sense of unity, so I’d promote pair programming or group problem-solving sessions. Providing resources for skill development can boost confidence. Additionally, offering breaks and recognizing individual efforts helps maintain motivation. Lastly, a positive attitude and a clear vision for overcoming challenges are essential. #TeamMorale 💪 #OpenCommunication 🗣️ #Collaboration 🤝 #PositiveWorkplace 🌟

Regular check-ins can help identify issues early and create a space for open dialogue. Recognizing the efforts of your team is also crucial. Acknowledge their hard work and celebrate small wins, as public recognition can significantly boost morale. Additionally, providing support through resources, training, or expert assistance can help the team address challenges more effectively.
