"Clarity avoids conflict." Open Discussions: I believe that sitting down to review the budget together means we're eye-to-eye on priorities and goals. Transparency: Full disclosure of all financial details builds trust, and this works to reduce misunderstandings. Compromise: Wherever differences of opinion crop up, we look at what's best for the company-even when meeting each other halfway. The steps listed above have enabled us to keep our eyes on growth and not get mired in conflicts. The bottom line is that communication always pays!

When you work with a long-term business partner you should work on a good relationship, transparency, and a clear understanding of each others interests. You should also openly discuss matters where you disagree. All this should be done before (!) conflicts arise. When you are in a conflict, such communication will be difficult. When in conflict, put the facts on the table, count on your understanding of your partner‘s intentions (and vice versa), and get over it. It is give and take in a partnership. With trust, this will help being relaxed when you must agree on something.

Business partnerships must begin with a strong contract, definition of financial benefits and obligations, and a process for deciding any conflicts. It would depend on the situation and what the partner wanted. But maintaining the fiscal health of the business is of paramount importance and if the partner wants a bigger salary or draw or a bigger share of the business I would defer to our original agreement. If the conflict involved their personal issues the business should not suffer because of their issues. A business partnership is not a money tree and without clear terms and conditions, misunderstandings could lead to the dissolution of the partnership, which may be an option for consideration.
