Deciding what to include on your resume starts with a strategic mindset: think like the hiring manager. Highlight experiences that directly address the job's core requirements, but don't stop there. Focus on achievements that showcase measurable impact—numbers speak volumes. Prioritize recent roles to reflect your growth and current skill set, but sprinkle in unique experiences that differentiate you. Your resume is your personal brand pitch: ensure every bullet point tells a story of value you bring to the table.

Align with the Job Description: Focus on experiences that directly relate to the job requirements. Highlight roles, skills, and achievements that demonstrate your fit, tailoring each application to align with the employer’s specific needs for relevance. Prioritize Impact/Results: Select experiences that showcase measurable success, such as leadership achievements, process improvements, or quantifiable outcomes (e.g., “Streamlined workflows to boost team efficiency by 30% and reduced project delivery times”). Emphasize Recency/Relevance: Choose recent roles or projects that reflect your current capabilities. For older experiences, include only those with significant achievements, leadership, or skills applicable to the target position.

To decide which ones make the cut, you need to first understand what experiences are relevant to this role that you're applying for. This is so that you would know which ones to include in your resume. You must then highlight experiences in which you've achieved something before. This is to show your capabilities in doing your work. You need to also mention and highlight anything that is most recent, up-to-date and related to this job that you're applying for. This is to show that you are still in the know of the current job market and trends.

Choose the jobs that are relevant to the job description. If you have less than 3 bullets under a job description, it is probably ok to cut it -- unless that would leave you with a gap.

As a recruiter, I’ve seen how challenging it can be to decide which experiences to include on your CV. Your CV should be comprehensive, showcasing all relevant experiences, as what seems minor to you might be important to a recruiter. Often, candidates miss out on opportunities because they haven’t highlighted key skills or tools. Keep it simple and pragmatic. Tailor your CV to match the job description, using key terms from the posting. Each opportunity is unique, so adapt your CV for each one to increase your chances of success.
