Customization has 3 aspects to it. The basic features which are coming with the product. Next high priority features which might be a necessity for a client and lastly good to have features. With each customization the delivery timeline might shift and the product cost might go up. Hence, clearly talk with the customer and align your delivery timeline with their needs. Have fun!

Agree on who are you designing for, specific value that the customization adds (for the who), and how much is 'enough' (brand value & needs). Customers will want to ask for *everything* without considering that there are always tradeoffs to this approach. Combining features from every competitor is bad design. Instead, Find the highest value areas to customize to satisfy the client and agreeing on targets will help align their goals and your efforts for efficiency and delivering something great.
