It is very true. Before we start to introduce a project to the client. We need to research about their interests, goals, need, challenges and objectives etc. We can collect such details via questionnaire or meetings. This will helpful to plan our projects based on the interests of the clients. It will definitely help success of the projects.

Um consultor ambiental deve sempre modular as expectativas do cliente e os requisitos necessários a um bom desempenho socioambiental de qualquer projeto. Assim, penso que um bom consultor ambiental ajuda o cliente a acertar o alvo de forma genuínamente legal e transformadora, o que muitas vezes os coloca em uma posição difícil frente aos desejos imediatos dos clientes, que por vezes não conseguem enxergar os benefícios em longo prazo. Assim, a educação ambiental e a postura ética com todas as partes interessadas é o caminho mais apropriado.

Un factor importante para que todos quedemos satisfechos, cliente y consultor es tener claro lo que solicita los terminos de referencia y lo que ofrece el consultor, seguidamente la comunicación de ambas partes es vital y el feedback de ambas partes en todo el proceso. Dentro del mismo marco el cumplir con los plazos previamente acordados para todos los entregables. Algo importante es entregar un bien analisis de los resultados obtenidos en el trabajo desarrollado y como utilizar estos resultados (lineamientos de gestion, procedimientos, etc); terminando con una presentación clara de todo el trabajo desarrollado.

Uma dica muito importante que recebi foi: busque entregar mais do que o contratado, assim a fidelização costuma ocorrer. Claro, sempre buscando o máximo de qualidade na entrega do contratado.

Le fameux REX! Hyper important, je le prend et je l'intègre à toutes mes machines. Pour moi, il y a 2 sources de REX importantes: celle du client et celle de l'atelier. Lorsqu'une machine est livrée, je demande toujours qu'est ce qui pourrait être amélioré sur la machine et sur le service. Je demande aussi aux monteurs à l'atelier qu'est ce qui était galère à faire et qu'est ce qui devrait être adapté. J'intègre tout ce retour d'expérience dans mes plans standards pour que tout nouveau projet commence à la pointe du REX des précédentes affaires!

We spend so much time in differentiation, innovation, those things. It is humans interpreting information. Those humans many times have families and dependencies that without jobs, those can't be fulfilled (like putting food on the table). So, yeah, innovation and differentiation is great. But perhaps, it's about creating a positive result for the client who thinks, "I gotta work with this person for the next three years... am I gonna like it? Will I get benefit out of it? Will I keep my job?" So, perhaps, a positive experience is what a client needs and desires. Being technically competent, communicating risk and avoiding it... all of those things are things that get us to the starting point. I think it's a trust matter.

You really need to show what value are you bringing to the table. What’s the benefit the client is getting. You really have to show the metrics and have to ensure the message is clear. If the client see no long term benefits, or if your value proposition is not strong enough then, onboarding will be challenging.

Considero que transparência e feedback são fundamentais para uma relação de ganha-ganha. Costumo dizer que para o consultor existem dois cenários: um cenário que você trabalha para o cliente e o segundo, no qual você trabalha com o cliente. O segundo, sem dúvida, é o tipo de relação mais saudável, pautada em confiança, transparência e objetivos comuns. Pela parte do consultor, creio ser importante passar um cenário realista, sem promessas com as quais não se pode cumprir, e que lá na frente podem quebrar essa relação de confiança.

Environmental Consulting is about protecting the public interest so most of the time you are not designing money-making parts of the project. For example on a proposed coal mine, you might be mapping endangered vegetation and defining no go areas. So environmental consultants are a cost, rather than a productive money generating entity. Historically, we were a necessary evil to project proponents. In some jurisdictions this has changed as offsets are required to cover environmental impacts. We can rejig a proposed project to minimize offset costs and that way we can positively affect the balance sheet. Our value is almost entirely determined by the regulatory environment.
