This is tough because a core element of successful teams is the ability to put the team first. There are a number of different elements here. The first might come from insecurity, and Brene Brown's work on vulnerability actually might fit well here. Often, at the heart of the issues is fear, fear that we aren't enough and fear that we won't be recognized. The solution starts with an inner confidence. The other is simple strong wills, individuals who mean well, are confident in their opinions, but lack the emotional awareness to realize the aren't leaving any room for others. It's not an easy fix. It starts with a conversation to recognize the problem, and then continual monitoring and coaching to grow.
