Owner priorities should drive the design solution. As the architect, it is my role to integrate proportion, scale and delight. Every project deserves those basic components. Proper placement of building(s) for sun and wind control, public and private areas, and stormwater management are all sustainable features easy to achieve unless the site is urban infill. My advice is to establish priorities by line item in the budget.

I believe below are the key points - a) There has to be a clear communication with the architect about the sustainability goals which you want to achieve. b) The list of goals should have flexibility and space to accommodate changes c) One should look at how the architectural and open space strategies can follow one language which will not only offer a creative solution to the project but also makes it more cohesive

In projects where two or more groups work together, the project can progress excellently if the teams collaborate and no group tries to work independently or pursue its own goals. Define the project objectives collaboratively. Sustainability is the primary goal of the project, so all objectives should be aligned with achieving the overarching goal of sustainability. In joint meetings, discuss the strategies and policies that will help you achieve these objectives. The strategies and policies should also be geared towards sustainable development. Always monitor the project’s progress, and whenever it becomes apparent that you are deviating from the main goal of sustainability, promptly address the issue to get back on track.
