Coming at this issue from the perspective of a person who frequently works as a consultant on behalf of a larger entity as well as a person who started out working in a help desk that was a bit of a start-up, I have found that the fastest way to find and triage issues such as this is proper documentation. If there is an SOP in place and a team member proposes a new way, they should be listened to and if possible, their method be tested on a small scale. Oftentimes, I've found these issues arise from a lack of documentation and SOPs. In these cases, if I were the manager of the team I would encourage each team member to submit a brief technical write-up on how they tackle the support problem and work from there.

I think one can begin by empowering your team to build strong relationships, just as you have with them. By assessing their current approach, you can guide them in refining their strategies and maximizing their impact. By understanding their unique approaches, you can offer effective support and guidance to foster stronger team dynamics and enhance overall productivity. In helping them refine their approach, you may be able to identify which relationships they prioritize and which they neglect; uncovering their intentions and resource allocations. Production can be compromised based on absence of trust, fear of conflict, lack of commitment, avoidance of accountability and inattention to results (individual goals over team goals.)

If you are the person in charge you should be competent enough to select the proper response. How your team views the issue is one component of your decision making but not the only one. Everyone should understand that their value to their employer is determined by their contribution to the bottom line

One thing I have found helpful in q situation where there is a disagreement among team players, is to carry out a retrospective and remind them of the st goals and deliverables. Breaking down tasks and assigning each member will help encourage accountability thus enhancing productivity
