In such conflictual situation, although a manager has to be decisive and provide his team and managers with clear insights, I recommend at first step to temporize and analyse the collaborators skills & backgrounds. My thought is that despite the fact that generation gap could be sometimes a cliche, it does actually explain the motivation behind everyone's choice. For example (without needing to be a psycho therapist) younger generation are attracted to the trend of innovation by the fact that it brings change, newer techs and methods, etc. itself it is not a bad thing at all. However there is a thin line that has to be highlighted I think to both sides that for end users "a working fiable increment" is much better than a new invention.

Eigentlich sehr einfach, man braucht beides. Es ist kein Konflikt, denn wer das als Konflikt sieht, der wir ewig versuchen Probleme zu lösen welche wahrscheinlich gar nicht bestehen. Ich brauche die Stabilität als Basis um die Innovation voran treiben zu können. Innovation heisst nicht unbedingt, dass man auf Stabilität von Systemen verzichtet.

Being on the other side or being a blocker to innovation is a losing proposition as you are costing the company revenues (in their eyes). The real success of any digital innovation is weighing organizational risks vs. innovative returns. Many times, organizations take up the digital innovation challenge and don't define what success looks like. If you can build a formulary around that, you will succeed in any digital innovation initiative while at the same time maintaining stability across the global operating environment.

I would first compare any innovative ideas with the reality of it in the real world. Do the benefits outway the potential for future problems. This is the reason for planning iterations. If the potential for more problems down the road is more realistic, then using the stable proven method would be the clear way to go. Now this does not mean it can't be revisited later when there is more info to make a better decision.
