ML teams are like a hammer and they think that everything is a nail and business teams want full functional results as of yesterday. I guess both the teams need to be put in one room and told clearly that ML is there to serve the business and it takes time and that not everything needs to be done through Machine learning. At the end of the day, in case of a conflict the business needs should decide where to use ML. Period.

Both the teams need to align on one goal and that goal is to either to increase efficiency, increase revenue or increase margins. If it were a research lab, the goal would have been research, but if it is a business it has to be one of the above. Once this is clear to both the teams, it should be easy to collaborate to achieve those goals.

Sometimes the business teams are quite unaware of the capabilities of the power of ML. The ML teams, in their zeal of applying ML everywhere, then need to educate and excite the business team about the possibilities of ML for business needs. Business teams are always looking for new ideas to make more money, just excite them with something which can increase revenue or increase margins and they will be in :-)
