People often lose motivation because they try to see the finish line from the starting point, but breaking this down into smaller steps will keep you motivated and get you to your desired goal. Getting clear on what you want is often where many people feel lost and benefit from having guidance and support. I help my clients create small actionable and achievable steps to help keep them motivated and accountable. It's easy to fall into the trap of spending more time thinking about your goals than you actually do working towards them. Having a customized action plan helps to get you to your goals.

When my clients start to lose motivation towards their goals, I help them by breaking down their larger objectives into smaller, more achievable milestones. This allows them to celebrate progress along the way, which reignites their sense of accomplishment and drive. I also emphasize the importance of identifying actions that fuel their energy versus those that drain it. By focusing on energy-boosting activities, they can stay engaged and motivated as they move towards their success.

Sometimes coaching clients seeking a change are afraid of failing to get a job or are afraid of succeeding (as odd as that may sound, taking on a new role brings on new insecurities and risks). In other cases, they're tired of pounding the proverbial pavement only to be "rejected" or worse yet, not even responded to. This can cause them to lose confidence in their value and relevance in today's market or their dignity. Once "mojo" is lost, they can spiral down into depression or otherwise allow their emotions to dictate whether they stay in the market. Restore their confidence and hope by introducing them to those inside companies so they can envision landing. Or, research exciting jobs and work more closely with them to help them land.

Sometimes, it's about finding the meaning again and shifting focus from what’s overwhelming to what’s manageable. Here’s how I approach it: - Reconnect with Purpose: Discuss why these goals matter to them and how they align with their values. - Break Goals into Milestones: Set smaller, achievable tasks to build confidence through progress. - Adapt the Plan: Adjust the action plan to fit their current energy and capacity—keeping things realistic and engaging. - Celebrate Small Wins: Recognize progress regularly, no matter how minor, to build momentum.

I ask my clients to remember their 'reason why'. Why did they set their goals? Why will it make a difference for them if they achieve them? and what the impact on them would be if they weren't successful. The answers to these are usually enough to reignite their drive for success.

Well this is an interesting question and no doubt some will disagree with me, but I don't see it as my job to re-ignite their drive. I agree with the late Stephen Covey when he said "Motivation is a fire from within. If someone else tries to light that fire under you, chances are it will burn very briefly." I see my job is to help them explore why their motivation is dwindling - sometimes it's because the goal no longer fits their aspirations.

When your motivation dips, you can take this as an opportunity to refocus. Start by reconnecting with why your goals matter. What impact do they have on your life or others? Reigniting your sense of purpose can help bring clarity. Also, break your goals into smaller, achievable steps to create momentum. Celebrate your wins - big and small - as they serve to remind you of your progress. Try to spend time on activities or with people who inspire you - new energy often comes from fresh perspectives and meaningful connections.
